About Primary Maths tutoring in Ireland
Mathematics is a core area of the Primary School Curriculum, running from early number work in the infant classes to fractions, decimals, percentages and problem solving by Sixth Class. It is strictly cumulative: place value underpins operations, operations underpin fractions, and fractions underpin the algebra your child will meet at second level.
That is why we start with an assessment that works backwards rather than forwards. Teaching Fourth Class content to a child whose place value is insecure produces short-term compliance and no lasting progress, so we find the last thing that was genuinely solid and rebuild from there.
Alongside understanding we build recall, because a child who has to work out six times seven has no attention left for the problem it sits inside. Tables and number facts are practised deliberately, in short bursts, rather than left to chance.

My child is behind in maths. Where do you start?+
With an assessment that works backwards until we find what is secure. Teaching Fourth Class content to a child with a place-value gap does not work, so we do not.
Do you help with tables and mental maths?+
Yes. Quick recall frees up thinking for harder problems, so we build it deliberately alongside understanding.
Does this follow the Primary School Curriculum?+

My child says they are "bad at maths". Can that change?+
Usually yes, and quickly. That belief almost always traces to one specific gap that made everything after it feel impossible. Finding and fixing that gap tends to change the belief along with the marks.
Do you set homework?+
A small amount, and only when it will be done. Ten minutes of tables practice several times a week does more than an hour at the weekend.
Do you prepare for standardised tests?+
We can. Drumcondra and Sigma-T results are a useful diagnostic, and if your school uses them we will look at the breakdown to target the weakest strands.
