Scarcity & Choice
Opportunity cost and how decisions get made
An early introduction to Economics for Junior Cycle students - scarcity, markets, money and the Irish economy, taught one-to-one ahead of Leaving Cert subject choice.
Economics is a Leaving Certificate subject in Ireland. It is not part of the Junior Cycle, so these sessions are an early introduction rather than exam preparation - typically for students deciding what to take in Fifth Year.
That said, the ideas are not idle at this stage. The economic strands of Junior Cycle Business Studies and Geography cover overlapping ground, and students often find those strands easier once they have met scarcity, demand and supply properly rather than in passing.
The honest value of starting here is information. Trying the thinking a subject demands before committing two years to it is much better than discovering in October of Fifth Year that it does not suit.
