About Primary English tutoring in Ireland
English is one of the core areas of the Primary School Curriculum, taught from Junior Infants right through to Sixth Class. It covers oral language, reading and writing together, on the principle that children who can talk confidently about an idea find it far easier to read about it and write it down.
The most common reason parents come to us is a gap between decoding and comprehension. A child can be word-perfect reading aloud and still not be able to say what the passage meant, because those are genuinely separate skills. We assess them separately and teach whichever is actually holding your child back, rather than assuming more reading practice will fix both.
Sessions are built around what your child's class is doing, so tutoring reinforces school rather than running in parallel to it. Tell us the reader, the writing genre or the spelling list and we will work from it.

Yes. Decoding and comprehension are separate skills and fluent readers can still miss meaning. We assess both and target whichever is holding your child back.
How young can a child start?+
From Junior Infants. Sessions for the youngest pupils are short, playful and focused on letter sounds, sight words and confidence.
Does this follow the Primary School Curriculum?+
Yes - English is a core curriculum area from Junior Infants to Sixth Class, and lessons are built around your child's class level.
Do you follow the school reading scheme?+
Yes where it helps. Tell us the scheme and level and we will work within it, so your child sees the same books and vocabulary in tutoring as in class.
How do you help a reluctant writer?+
By separating the thinking from the writing. Most reluctant writers can tell you a good story out loud, so we plan orally first and only then commit it to paper, which removes the blank-page problem.
How long before we see progress?+
Reading fluency usually shifts within a term of weekly sessions. Comprehension and writing take longer because they depend on vocabulary and background knowledge, which build gradually.
