Sociology is not a Junior Cycle subject in Ireland, and only some schools offer it at senior level. These sessions are an introduction for students curious about how society works.
The core move is explaining an individual outcome by looking at the structures around the person - family, school, class, community - rather than at the person alone. It is a genuinely different way of thinking and students tend to find it either obvious or startling.
It supports CSPE, Geography and History, all of which ask students to explain social patterns with evidence rather than assertion.
