About Primary coding and computer science in Ireland
Coding is not a standalone subject on the Primary School Curriculum, though many schools run coding clubs or use it within Maths and SESE. These sessions are enrichment for children who want to build things with a computer.
Work is mostly in block-based tools such as Scratch, where children build games, animations and simple apps. Blocks remove the typing and syntax barrier, so a child can concentrate on the part that actually transfers: breaking a problem into steps, spotting repetition, and working out why something does not behave as expected.
Debugging is the real curriculum. A child who can calmly find out why their program is wrong has learned something that applies well beyond programming, and it is exactly what Leaving Certificate Computer Science later assesses.

Is coding taught in Irish primary schools?+
Some primary schools run coding clubs or use it within maths and SESE, but it is not a standalone curriculum subject. These sessions are enrichment, and good groundwork for Junior Cycle coding and Leaving Cert Computer Science.
Is my child too young for this?+
We start from where your child actually is. Sessions are pitched at their reading level and attention span, and the tutor stops as soon as interest does rather than pushing through a syllabus.
Are lessons personalised?+
Every session is live one-to-one with a dedicated tutor, so the pace and the examples are built around your child.
Does my child need their own computer?+
A computer or laptop with a browser is enough - the tools we use run online and are free. A tablet works for some activities but a keyboard and mouse are better.
Scratch or Python?+
Scratch for most primary pupils, because it removes typing and syntax errors. Older or more experienced children can move to Python, and we will advise honestly on when that is worth doing.
Is screen time a concern?+
This is creating rather than consuming, which is a meaningfully different activity - though sessions are still time-limited and project-based.
